Tasmania’s South West wilderness can only be accessed by sea, air or on foot – this is a wild and spectacular Wilderness that has remained largely untouched since discovery.

Ketchem Bay
Ketchem Bay is one of the most remote and beautiful places one could wish to visit. A stunning beach located on Tasmania’s southern coastline in the South West World Heritage Area with a lagoon ideal for a refreshing dip.

Ketchem Bay 5 Day Wilderness Adventure 4-8 PAX (From $1990 pp) - Sunday March 4th to Thursday March 8th.

  • Day One - The group departs Hobart by aircraft for a scenic flight to Tasmania's South West World Heritage Area.  Depending on the weather, the flight takes the group either through mountainous terrain or over the spectacular southern coastline to the Melaleuca Airstrip in the South West World Heritage Area.  The camp site on day one is Cox Bight, a beach beside the Southern Ocean, a four hour walk from Melaleuca.
  • Day Two - The walk to Ketchem Bay route covers undulating button grass plains, a small patch of forest and a creek crossing, to arrive at the first campsite “New Harbour” situated in open forest near the sea.
  • Day Three - A side trip across open plains to George's Falls, a secluded and beautiful spot where great photographs can be created with a wide angle lens. In fact, photographic opportunities are everywhere around New Harbour particularly at first light on a still morning. In the afternoon the group begins the day with a short steep climb through rainforest to the open ridges to enjoy coastal views on the walk to Hidden Bay, the third campsite.
  • Day Four - An easy day walk with great ocean views looking west towards South West Cape, one of the great Capes of the Southern Hemisphere.
  • Day Five - On the final day the group returns to Melaleuca for a return scenic flight to Hobart.

The South Coast Track

From Tasmania’s capital city, Hobart, clients are flown 50 minutes into the South West World Heritage Area.  From the light aeroplane, clients view the bays, capes, crags and beaches of the wild South Coast or, weather permitting, traverse the rugged Arthur Ranges, flying close to the sheer cliffs of Federation Peak.  Touching down deep in the wilderness at the Melaleuca Airstrip clients wave goodbye to their pilots, who may well be the last people they see for days.  This is the starting point of the eight day wilderness adventure along the world famous South Coast Track.

On foot, the group hike for seven days before reaching the final destination at Cockle Creek, Australia’s southern most town with a population of six.

The group walk along white sandy beaches and forested headlands, dwarfed by the sand dunes, crashing waves and the mountain ranges beyond.  The group cross Tasmania’s signature tannin coloured rivers and button grass plains, row across a lagoon and climb mountains.
